The Truckload Carriers Association (TCA) is taking a fresh look at human resource issues with a new annual event — WorkForce Builders Conference — scheduled next June 28 through 30 at the Westin Indianapolis in Indianapolis, Ind. (westinindianapolis.com).
WFBCON expects to drills deeper into a variety of issues trucking executives face as well as many of the responsibilities handled by managers. This includes hiring and retaining drivers, diesel mechanics and office personnel, as well as attracting new people to the industry.
“Over the past 77 years, TCA has amassed a huge wealth of knowledge on how carriers can be more operationally efficient — especially in the areas of human resources,” said Shelley Mundy, director of recruiting and retention for Cargo Transporters Inc., and the chairman of TCA’s Recruitment & Retention Human Resources Committee.
That panel is working in conjunction with TCA staff to develop the content for the conference. “We’re going to address what is happening today, focus on proven methods and best practices, and look at how the trucking industry is evolving in order to be prepared for tomorrow,” Mundy said.
WFBCON participants will learn new strategies for:
- Driver recruiting and engagement
- Hiring diesel mechanics and owner-operators
- Staff training and certification
- Compensation and benefits
- Employee relations
