There’s nothing like success to spark continuation of a program, and the Truckload Carrier Association’s popular Trucking’s Weight Loss Showdown has prompted a third edition of this healthy competition.
The idea is to bring together teams of drivers and staff from truckload companies and determine which individual and which company can achieve the greatest weight loss over a 100-week period.
“When we first made a plan to address obesity within the trucking industry, we knew we’d have to create something fun and competitive to capture the imagination of the trucking community,” said Chris Burruss, TCA’s president.
For 10 weeks between June and August, six teams will follow the Lean for Life On-the-Road program offered by the Lindora Clinic, a leading clinical weight management provider. The program stresses a low-carbohydrate, low-fat, moderate-protein menu plan, coupled with exercise, nutrition education and lifestyle changes. Lindora coaches will contact each individual throughout the competition to provide nutrition education, boost morale, discuss obstacles, and record weight loss.
For the new challenge, six teams will be competing:
American Central Transport – Liberty, Missouri
Bay & Bay Transportation– Rosemount, Minnesota
E.W. Wylie Corp. – West Fargo, North Dakota
Freight Exchange of North America – Chicago, Illinois
Grand Island Express – Grand Island, Nebraska
Halvor Lines Inc. – Superior, Wisconsin
As incentives, TA/Petro of Westlake, Ohio, will make the Lindora Clinic’s program available to the company winner for another 10 weeks — a prize valued at $13,000. The winner will be able to renew the enrollment of its Showdown team or sign up other employees. TA/Petro will also provide restaurant and food gift cards or certificates valued at $3,000. The individual who loses the greatest percentage of weight will receive $2,500 and a trophy, provided by Cline Wood Agency of Kansas.
The company and individual winners of the third Showdown will be honored at the Great American Trucking Show (TA/Petro booth), August 22-24, in Dallas, Texas. Be sure to check www.truckingsweightlossshowdown.com for the latest details as they become available.
