The Owner-Operator Independent Drivers Association (OOIDA) this week asked its members to get involved in the trucking industry’s image-promoting Trucking Moves America Forward campaign.

It urges OOIDA members to adopt a pledge that encourages commitment to a list of positive values that can be incorporated into a driver’s personal and professional code and shared with others.

“We hope this pledge provides a meaningful message that members will share with others and encourage support for the Trucking Moves America Forward campaign,” says OOIDA spokeswoman Norita Taylor. “The pledge is something that not only truck drivers can relate to, but also other types of workers in the trucking industry.”

Below are some of the values outlined in the pledge:

Pride: Be proud of our profession and support others

Leadership: Demonstrate and encourage the TMAF values

Safety: By making it the most important priority in all decisions

Respect: For myself and for others and the role they play in trucking

Advocacy: Promote trucking’s essentiality, impact on economy and safety record

Education: Instruct the motoring public on the issues of highway safety

Mentorship: Help new entrants into the profession learn and achieve their goals.

The mission of Trucking Moves America Forward is to establish a long-term industrywide movement to create a positive image for the industry, to ensure that policymakers and the public understand the importance of the trucking industry to the nation’s economy, and to build the political and grassroots support necessary to strengthen and grow the industry in the future.
