The 2013 rolling memorial truck from Volvo Trucks joined a motorcade traveling from Volvo’s New River Valley assembly plant in Dublin, Va., to the nation’s capital this Memorial Day weekend. The graphic design on the Volvo VNL 670 was developed by New River Valley and UAW Local 2069’s Veteran Committee.
Volvo employees at the New River Valley plant have participated for more than two decades in the Run For The Wall motorcycle rally in tribute to America’s fallen military heroes and prisoners of war.
The Rolling Thunder First Amendment Demonstration Run is an annual ride that got its start back on Memorial Day weekend in 1988. Riders from around the nation gather together in the parking lot of the Pentagon and begin the run through the streets of Washington, D.C.
Afterward, participants get together with old friends — some dating back a quarter century to the first Rolling Thunder. It is an opportunity to pay respect for our service men and women at the memorials and participate in Memorial Day events taking place today in the nation’s capital.
