Navistar Recalls 7,756 ProStars, TranStar Trucks

Navistar is recalling certain model year 2012-2013 International brand ProStar and TranStar commercial trucks, according to a bulletin released recently by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

The trucks in question were manufactured between Aug. 1, 2011, and July 10, 2012, and are equipped with front brake linings listed as feature codes 0504501, 0504504 or 04EWM. The NHTSA warns that brake S-Cam tube bracket assemblies on the steer axles may fracture.

Those fractures could result in an inoperative brake on the affected wheel that could cause the truck to pull unexpectedly to one side during braking. It could also increase the area needed to stop the vehicle, which also could result in a crash.

Navistar said it has already notified all affected owners about the defect during the course of the 2012 campaign that did not launch due to parts delays. The remedy is expected to be available in August 2013. Dealers will replace the S-Cam tube bracket assemblies, free of charge. Owners may contact Navistar at 800-448-7825. Navistar’s number for this recall is 12530. This recall supersedes recall 12V-546.
