Lytx Inc., a global leader in video-based driver safety, said J&R Schugel Trucking Inc. is the latest trucking company to deploy the Lytx DriveCam Program throughout its fleet. The company has regional and over-the-road operations in the Midwest, Northeast, Southeast, and West Coast, with 450 company drivers and 150 contractor-drivers operating 600 power units.

“This early into the program, we’ve been able to retain drivers on multiple occasions because of exonerations made possible by the DriveCam Program,” said Clay Merches, vice president of safety and human resources for J&R Schugel Trucking. “These instances have inspired other drivers to embrace the program as well.”

One of the key program features that J&R Schugel leverages is the remote coaching option that provides the ability to coach over-the-road drivers from a distance and reducing risky driving behaviors such as speeding by 50 percent.

“Being able to coach our drivers on risky behaviors like speeding has contributed to driver retention as well, because their improvement means we can keep them on,” Merches said. “We’ve seen some drivers improve from having numerous coachable events to zero events in a matter of weeks. The program also lets us know which of our drivers is the riskiest. For example, only a small fraction of our drivers account for the majority of speeding violations, showing us who to focus our coaching on.”
