Allison Transmission Holdings Inc. has been recognized by Frost & Sullivan for the innovation and performance demonstrated by its fully automatic TC10. Based on an analysis of the Class 8 tractor market, Allison received the 2016 Best Practices Award for North American Customer Value Leadership.

On average, the TC10 delivers 5 percent better fuel economy than current manual- or automated manual transmission-equipped tractors. Additionally, the TC10’s ease of use enhances the ability to recruit and retain drivers, while reducing training time and removing the distraction of manual shifting for drivers on the road.
“The TC10 remains the first and only fully automatic transmission for the Class 8 tractor market,” said Silpa Paul, senior research analyst with Frost & Sullivan. “While this segment has traditionally been dominated by manual transmissions, the TC10 offers definite advantages related to fuel economy and drivability that will continue to spur adoption and long-term growth.”
With its twin countershaft and torque converter architecture, the TC10 combines the drivability, performance and durability benefits of full power-shifting automatic transmissions with the cruising fuel economy inherent in twin countershaft architecture. The design utilizes a torque converter for initial launch only, a five-speed countershaft main transmission and a two-speed planetary range output section. With this technology, there is no torque interruption between shifts.
“Allison’s TC10 is a perfect example of product leadership,” said Paul. “It combines the startability and continuous, uninterrupted power shifting qualities of a fully automatic transmission with the cruising aspects of a manual transmission. This product is growing Allison’s market share in the metro-tractor sub-segment, thereby strengthening its leadership in the overall Class 8 segment in North America.”
The TC10 comes equipped with Allison’s newest generation of electronic controls and FuelSense technology, which provide superior fuel economy features, prognostics to eliminate unnecessary oil and filter changes and enhanced shift selector functionality.
Earlier this year, Navistar introduced the Allison TC10 coupled with the Cummins ISX15 on its International ProStar model. More recently, Paccar announced that the TC10 will be offered in Kenworth T680 and T880 and Peterbilt models 567 and 579 with both Paccar and Cummins engines. A five-year or 750,000-mile warranty is included.
