America’s 3.4 million professional truck drivers deserve a salute and a safe drive, year-round. During National Truck Driver Appreciation Week Sept. 13-19 in particular, Bendix Commercial Vehicle Systems LLC offers thanks and recognition to the men and women behind the wheel who keep America moving, while continuing its commitment to provide support to drivers.
First celebrated in 1988, National Truck Driver Appreciation Week is sponsored by the American Trucking Associations (ATA).
“Bendix works every day to engineer and improve systems that put safer vehicles on North America’s highways, and the technologies evolving across today’s commercial vehicle industry – from stability control to collision mitigation and advanced wheel-end components – are paving the way for amazing trucking capabilities in the future,” said Fred Andersky, Bendix director of government and industry affairs. “But above all, we never want to lose sight of the importance of America’s truck drivers to everyone’s highway safety. Nothing replaces the experience and skill of the dedicated, trained professionals who log more than 400 billion miles each year to keep the country and its economy moving forward.”
In 2014, America’s truck drivers moved nearly 10 billion tons of freight – more than two-thirds (68.8 percent) of all domestic freight tonnage – as the trucking industry generated $700.4 billion in total revenue. And approximately 80 percent of U.S. communities depend solely on trucking for delivery of their goods and commodities.
