A study of formerly owned Class 8 truck metrics continued to be mixed in December, according to the latest release of the State of the Industry: U.S. Classes 3-8 Used Trucks, published by ACT Research.
“December unit sales rebounded from November, but were flat year-to-date relative to the same period in 2014,” said Steve Tam, ACT’s vice president of the commercial vehicle sector.
“Age trends remained flat month over month in December, while pricing fell 1 percent month over month. Year-over-year, prices were down 6 percent compared to December of 2014. Dealers are reporting demand for used trucks is slowing, which means that dealers will be reducing prices to move the used trucks,” added Tam.
Average mileage of used Class 8 trucks was up slightly month over month in December, but remained down by 6 percent year over year. For the total year, pricing and age were flat compared to 2014, while mileage declined 8 percent.
